Frequently Asked Questions

Got Questions? We've Got Answers.

Everything you need to know before stepping on the mats. Still not sure about something? Reach out—we're happy to help.

GETTING STARTED

I've never trained before. Can I still join?

Absolutely. The majority of our students walked in with zero experience. Our fundamentals classes are built specifically for beginners, and our coaches and training partners will guide you through every step. You belong here from day one.

What do I need to bring to my first class?

Just yourself, a water bottle, and a pair of slip on sandals/shoes for when you step off the mat —we have loaner gis you can wear on Gi days, so there's no need to buy gear before you've tried it. Dress in leggings or shorts and a t-shirt with no zippers, buttons, snaps, or pockets (these can catch fingers and cause injuries). Come a few minutes early so we can show you around.

Do I need to register for the classes I want to take?

No—your membership gives you access to all classes, so there's no need to reserve a spot ahead of time. Just fill out the waiver online or when you arrive at the gym, and try to get there 10–15 minutes early so we can orient you to the space.

How do I sign up?

You can sign up online  for your free week, or simply stop by the gym and we'll get you set up in person. After your trial week is over, just let us know you are ready to join and we can get you all set as a new member of Endurance Jiu Jitsu!

CLASSES & TRAINING

What programs do you offer?

We offer Adult BJJ (Gi and No-Gi), Kids BJJ, Advanced Youth BJJ for experienced young grapplers, and Strength & Conditioning. Whether you're training for self-defense, fitness, competition, or personal growth, there's a place for you.

What's the difference between Gi and No-Gi?

In Gi training you wear the traditional jiu jitsu uniform (kimono) with a t-shirt or rash guard under it. In the Gi you grip the fabric for control and submissions. No-Gi is trained in rash guards and shorts with no fabric to grab, so it tends to be faster-paced. Most students train both—they complement each other well.

How often should I train?

It depends on your goals. Two to three classes a week is great for steady progress while balancing a busy life. If you're training for competition, you may want to come more often. Consistency matters more than intensity—just keep showing up.

Is jiu jitsu safe? Will I get hurt?

Jiu jitsu is one of the safest combat sports because of its controlled, technical nature. Safety is our top priority: we emphasize proper technique, controlled training, and tapping early. You always control your own intensity, and our coaches keep a close eye on the mats.

What are your class times?

We run classes throughout the week for all programs. Because schedules occasionally change for holidays, please check the live calendar on our Schedule section for the most accurate, up-to-date times. Your membership gives you access to all classes, so there's no need to reserve a spot ahead of time. Just fill out the waiver online or when you arrive at the gym, and try to get there 10–15 minutes early so we can orient you to the space.

Is there any gym etiquette I should know?

A few simple things keep the mats safe and respectful for everyone: arrive on time so you don't miss the warm-up and instruction, come clean with good personal hygiene, and keep your finger and toe nails trimmed short to avoid scratching your training partners. A clean gi or rash guard for every session is appreciated too.

Kids & Youth

What age can my child start?

Kids can start in our Kids BJJ program at age 5. The program focuses on discipline, focus, and confidence through fun, age-appropriate training.

What is the Advanced Youth BJJ class?

Advanced Youth BJJ is for experienced young grapplers ready to level up. The class builds on the fundamentals with more advanced techniques, live rolling, and competition preparation—perfect for dedicated kids and teens who want to develop as athletes.

Will jiu jitsu help with bullying?

Yes. Beyond the physical self-defense skills, jiu jitsu builds the confidence, composure, and self-control that help kids handle difficult situations calmly. Many parents tell us their children become more focused and self-assured both on and off the mats.

Membership & Billing

How much does membership cost?

We offer Adult and Youth membership options with unlimited access to classes in your program. Check our Membership section for current pricing, and remember your first week is free so you can try before you commit.

Is there a long-term contract?

Nope! We keep things flexible and straightforward. Every membership is billed month to month. We ask for 30 days notice if canceling. After your free week trial we'll give you a secure link to add you payment information and thats it — no high-pressure sales.

Can the whole family train?

Definitely. We love training families and have programs for both adults and kids. Reach out and we'll help you find the best setup for everyone.
